After its theatrical release on June 13th, 2008, "The Incredible Hulk" made over $134 million in U.S. theaters and over $250 million worldwide. The film also had plenty of teases and cliffhangers that practically scream, "Sequel!!!"
So will there be one? I sure hope so.
What IS known for sure is that the Hulk will next appear in the future blockbuster movie "The Avengers", due out in theaters in the summer of 2011. To those that don't know the monthly comic book series, the Avengers are a team of superheroes who team up to fight the forces of evil too great for one hero to stop alone. The original team members were the Hulk, The Mighty Thor, Iron Man, Wasp, and Ant Man. The Hulk would quit in the second issue of the comic, and Captain America would take his place in issue four, as well as serve as the team's leader. Among those signed on to "The Avengers" film, to date, are actors Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man) and Don Cheadle (Jim Rhodes/War Machine), as well as executive producer Jon Favreau (the director of "Iron Man"). Edward Norton, who is reportedly signed on to a multi-picture deal, may return to play Dr. Bruce Banner. Whether or not his fellow cast members Liv Tyler (Dr. Betty Ross) and William Hurt (General Ross) will appear, though, has yet to be confirmed. I sure hope they do. They're all great and talented actors.
Producer Gale Anne Hurd recently said in an interview that the Hulk sequel would likely happen after the Avengers. So does that mean the Green Goliath will smash back into theaters in 2012 or the next year? I sure hope it's the former. After all, the sooner we see the Hulk back on the big screen (where he belongs), the better...
